Cult/ Hausu

Gorgeous goes to stay with her Auntie in her isolated mansion and brings six of her friends along, each of whom has a special skill. Upon arriving the group find that there is more to Auntie’s house than meets the eye…

On the surface something of a haunted house film, Hausu was inspired by discussions director Obayashi had with his young daughter. In the film, he sought to capture the way youngsters came up with ideas that could not be explained. The result is a delirious film that unleashes a multitude of imaginative ideas and scenarios and is perhaps the cult film from Japan in the 1970s. Ultimately Hausu is weird, wonderful, and incomparable to anything else.
