Grow Your Own

Directed by Richard Laxton

Written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Carl Hunter, this heartwarming, bittersweet comedy germinated from the seeds of Hunter’s short documentaries made with Merseyside’s Art in Action.

A refugee family is given a plot to help rehabilitate their traumatised father. Initially they and other refugee gardeners are met with suspicion and hostility by the working-class men who’ve worked the allotments for years. Can trust, respect and a sense of community grow alongside award-winning cauliflowers and sharks-fin melons?
