Grand Prix

Directed by John Frankenheimer

Frankenheimer’s love of formula motor racing is evident in every frame of GRAND PRIX, resulting in one of the best films on the subject. Eschewing post-production effects for the real thing, heavy 70mm cameras were mounted on the cars (nowadays digital makes it so much easier) and a season’s worth of events were filmed. Slow-motion and long lenses were also employed to recreate the thrill of the racing experience.
