‘We loved to dance alone, moving for moving’s sake. Where did it go?’
An improvised film about improvisation, Gingerella (RockaFela) explores the meaning of dance and synchronisation in a collaboration with neuroscientist, Professor Chris Frith. With a thread that weaves together thirteen universal interpretations of the Cinderella myth, the central narrative is the contemporary story of dancer, Gingerella – an improvisation by newcomer Eleanor Sikorski – and her search to rediscover her ability to dance. The world of modern neuroscience is Gingerella’s map and her guides are two of its foremost practitioners. In an age when physical proximity to machines can be more common than with people, we journey with Gingerella through landscapes of earth, body and mind exploring how we dance and what it is to be close to each other.
