Fuerte Apache

Directed by Jaume Mateu Adrover

Adrover’s feature directorial début, which won the Audience Award at Toulouse Cinespaña last year, is a work of fiction couched in the reality of disenfranchised youths, with added authenticity brought to the film by the many non-professional actors involved. Toni Darder (Diego) has dedicated his working-life to a youth rehabilitation centre on the outskirts of Barcelona, but now on the brink of retirement he feels like a failure. The arrival of the Maghribian street kid Tariq (El Hilali) seems to herald a change, and this time for the better. Dealing with the realities of drugs, domestic violence, social inequality and racial tensions, FUERTE APACHE is a story of second chances, and of keeping hope alive when all seems lost.
