Free Men

Directed by Ismaël Ferroukhi

Loosely inspired by true events, Free Men is a tense espionage drama starring rising French star Tahar Rahim (A Prophet). Set in the summer of 1942, the film focuses on the politics and prejudices behind a Paris mosque, where false papers were made to enable hundreds of Jews to evade capture during the WWII occupation.

After being arrested, underhand black market trader Younges is enlisted by the Secret Services to spy on the mosque. Befriending local singer Salim and mosque worker Leila (played by Incendies actress, Lubna Azabal), Younges soon gets entangled in the dangerous intrigue of German-occupied Paris and the diplomatic tightrope balanced with the Nazi officers.

Free Men is an engaging and fascinating insight into the little-known story of Muslim agents who fought for the French Resistance and sure to delight fans of recent hits The Round-Up, Outside the Law and Of Gods and Men.
