Fat City

Directed by John Huston

John Huston’s punishing take on Leonard Gardiner’s novel is undoubtedly the bleakest boxing movie of all time. It may well also be the best. The story of a washed up pugilist (Keach) who attempts to reignite his career after seeing promise in an aspiring young boxer (an early career Jeff Bridges), Fat City offers a despairing look at American 1970s life and the fantasy of sport as a shortcut to the American Dream. A film seeped in alcohol fumes, loss and corruption, there are no champions in Fat City, just disparate, desperate losers brutally shunted to the fringes of society. Not to be missed in an exclusive HOME presentation.
