El Hombre de arena

Directed by José Manuel González-Berbel

Set in late 1960s Spain, under the Franco dictatorship, the film tells the story of Mateo, a young man imprisoned in a brutal psychiatric hospital for denouncing a Nationalist officer. Despite repeated attempts to crush his independent spirit, Mateo’s defiance continues to inspire love and admiration amongst the vulnerable in-patients who suffer so silently in this remote corner of Extremadura.
