A tough urban drama evoking the malaise of postwar Japan, DRUNKEN ANGEL marks the first time that Kurosawa worked with his iconic actor, Mifune. In his first starring role, he plays an arrogant young gangster who consults an alcoholic doctor (Shimura) about his tuberculosis. They develop a resentful relationship of mutual need.
