Couscous

Directed by Abdellatif Kechiche

Couscous draws its audience in to its family drama with a series of acutely observed moments and heartfelt interactions of people living out their daily lives. Mr. Beiji, the head of a Franco-Arabic family desperately tries to keep his fractured family together. At 60 years old his job is increasingly exhausting and unrewarding and his familial relationships are suffering. His dream of opening a restaurant specialising in couscous – which gives the films its name – has the centripetal force needed to unite his brood.
