Coronation Street – The real jewel in the crown

A look back (and forward) at the programme that was voted the favourite ITV offering. As Granada approaches its own 50th anniversary, it’s an apt time to recognise the contribution that Britain’s first soap has made to its television and film culture – from the storylines, to the world-renowned writers, directors and actors who cut their teeth on Weatherfield’s mean streets. Cornerhouse is pleased to welcome Coronation Street’s creator and writer Tony Warren, screenwriters Daran Little and John Stevenson and actress Julia Haworth (Claire Peacock, Ashley’s Wife). The evening will be chaired by Coronation Street producer Tony Wood. The programme will consist of three Coronation Street episodes: The First Ever Episode of Coronation Street, the 1983 Love Triangle between Ken Barlow, Deidre and Mike Baldwin and the episode in which we saw Dev’s shop go up in flames. Each of the three episodes will be introduced and discussed by their writers, and actress Julia Haworth will also be on hand to reveal what it is like to work on a soap opera. In association with ITV Granada.
