In 1975, Nigel Kneale defected from the BBC to ATV (now Carlton). The immediate result was BEASTS, Kneale’s first TV series since 1957’s QUATERMASS AND THE PIT. Actually an anthology, it comprises six stand-alone modern day stories of an unsettling nature, all centering on Man’s relationship to the animal kingdom. The concept afforded Kneale the opportunity to use a variety of approaches to the theme, from strange and satirical to purely terrifying.Acclaimed at the time – but virtually unseen since – we present two of the original six stories, as selected by Nigel Kneale who will be present at the screening. Titles are During Barty’s Party and What Big Eyes.
