At the Height of Summer

Directed by Tran Anh Hung

From the director of THE SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYAS and CYCLO, a sensuous tale of three sisters, set in Hanoi during the hottest days of the year. The film follows the sisters during the month between the ritualistic anniversaries of their mother and father’s deaths. Although they don’t live together, the sisters are close but have more problems with other relationships. The two eldest are married to artistic men, but difficulties simmer within their marriages. The youngest lives with their brother, in an extremely close symbiosis. Meanwhile, the intense sun affects actions and moods. Beautifully shot by the cinematographer of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, the film’s languid pace and luminous imagery belie a dark undercurrent.
