Based on Shakespeare’s Othello, Basil Dearden’s tale of a jazz drummer (Patrick McGoohan) is set almost entirely within the confines of a jazz club. An enjoyable work, it is however perhaps most notable for the performances of a roster of top notch musicians including Dave Brubeck, John Dankworth, Charles Mingus and, the one and only Tubby Hayes.
