Julien Temple’s flawed but hugely ambitious and entertaining attempt to bring the novel by Colin MacInnes to the screen is ripe for revisiting. A film that takes on issues of race, class and the emerging consumerism of the 1960s, it also features more pop stars than you can shake a tambourine at. Bowie – who had a number 2 hit with the theme song – is the standout but Patsy Kensit, Sade, Ray Davies, Smiley Culture, Sandie Shaw, Slim Gaillard (and more) all also feature.
