Liz Lock: Hard Drive

Liz Lock is a photographic artist living and working in Manchester. Over the years she has collected thousands of pictures. Some she has taken herself with a camera, others were found in family or strangers’ archives. Black and white photographs of zoo animals are interspersed with glamour model shots, and lapdancing-bar interiors are displayed alongside a desert scene.

Aside from the decisions made in the process of taking and selecting them, Lock’s only intervention has been to create these pairings. The images are connected only by their place in her archive and hard drive; they are mere surfaces that attracted her eye over the years. Rather than dictating meaning, Lock leaves this process to the viewer.
