Cumbria based artist Heather James presents a series of her opulent flower paintings and drawings. Her flower imagery draws on the dark significance of their symbolic meanings, utilising in particular the visual language of Northern Renaissance and Dutch Still Life, to explore issues around the portrayal of an ideal femininity.
Through surfaces that are insecure, manipulated and to varying degrees artificial, James questions what is real and true, and explore visual uncertainty.
