Local artist David Wightman appropriates images from both geometric abstraction and classical landscape painting – motifs associated with aspiration, idealism, and modernity. Using collaged wallpaper, which signifies the domestic, he personalises these images and renders them nostalgic – capturing both their beauty and banality and the desires they represent. The colours and patterns he uses in his work link aspirational working class homes and high art.
