Workshop: Breach Theatre: Devising From Historical sources

Join It’s True, It’s True, It’s True director Billy Barrett for a workshop on devising theatre from historical sources. Working with the texts and images that inspired Breach Theatre’s award-winning courtroom drama, this two-hour session will explore how to find characters, narrative and scenes in archival material. Moving beyond conventional ideas of “truth” in staging real-life stories, it will consider the limits and possibilities of documentary and verbatim theatre through collaborative devising, improvisation and writing exercises.

Breach is a multimedia performance company founded by Dorothy Allen-Pickard, Billy Barrett and Ellice Stevens, and produced by Ellie Claughton. They collaborate with actors to create politically engaged, formally exploratory shows that blend drama and documentary. Breach’s productions include Fringe First Award-winning It’s True, It’s True, It’s True (2018), Total Theatre Award-winning The Beanfield (2015), Fringe First Award-winning Tank (2016), Fair Field: The Ploughing of the Half-Acre with Penned in the Margins (2017), and The Drill (2018).
