Artists respond to the world that surrounds us to produce their artwork. This course will look at some of the issues and themes that inspire contemporary artists to make work. Often different artists produce work that looks completely different and yet has similar ideas behind it. This highly illustrated course will look in depth at a different issue every week and draw on a wide range of contemporary artists and mediums. Themes will include science, craft, popular culture, and artists explored will number Mark Dion, Fischli and Weiss, Mark Wallinger and Jeremy Deller.
Beginners’ level – no prior knowledge necessary.
