The Children’s Bookshow/ Jo Empson

This event had been cancelled. If you have booked a ticket, the team from The Children’s Book Show will contact you regarding your booking.

Children’s author Jo Empson will be running a creative workshop for primary school groups at HOME, as part of The Children’s Bookshow 2021.

Using Rabbityness, her first published picture book, Jo Empson will take the audience on a creative journey to show them how to make a book. From early roughs and sketch books full of ideas to miniature mock-up books to the finished work, Jo will offer children a fascinating insight into the world of a picture book illustrator. With lots of audience participation, Jo will read her stories Little Home Bird and Chimpanzees for Tea and the children will be able to see her illustrations on a large screen as they listen to the stories. Join us for a fun and inspiring morning of stories and drawing.

Every child attending Jo’s performance gets a free copy of Jo’s book Rabbityness!

The show is suitable for primary aged children – years 1,2 and 3.

Jo Empson graduated from Cambridge School of Art with an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. During the course she created her first picture book Rabbityness which was published the following year in 2012 by Child’s Play International. Rabbityness celebrates being yourself, encourages creativity and very importantly, shows us how to come to terms with loss. It has been nominated for 8 awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal. Jo has since gone on to write and illustrate several more beautiful picture books including Little Home BirdChimpanzees for Tea! and Jungle Jamboree.

Tickets: £6 per child and include a free book and accompanying adults are free.

Running time: Approx 1 hour
