Romani Language Workshop

This Romani language workshop is open to all and is hosted by Juice Vamosi, a Roma language expert and translator.

The session will explore some of the histories of the Romani language, its similarities to Hindi and other Indo-Aryan languages, how it evolved in different ways as people moved to or through different countries, and some of the ‘loan words’ picked up or given. Following this, there will be a chance to ask questions, and to practise some words in various dialects.

Juice Vamosi grew up in a Roma community in Hungary and currently lives in Oldham. He is an expert in Romani dialects and has been an adviser on language and other Roma issues to many global organisations, TV channels, schools and universities. He has produced film & TV projects about Roma life and is the founder of Kaskosan, a charity whose mission is to build the capabilities, life chances and well-being of Roma communities in the UK.
