Quatermass Jubilee

Exactly fifty years ago, the BBC TV broadcast the first instalment of THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT – writer Nigel Kneale’s landmark sci-fi thriller concerning a catastrophic launch by a British rocket group. Intended merely to plug a gap in the summer schedules, it’s now regarded as marking the birth of modern TV drama. By way of celebration, this is a rare screening of the first two episodes of the seminal serial (all that exists in the archives) plus THE PHOTOGRAPH – a short story by Kneale, here read for television in 1978 by actor Tom Baker. This special event will be introduced by acclaimed novelist and TV scriptwriter Stephen Gallagher (Oktober, Murder Rooms).
