Join us for the launch of ¡Viva!  2012 as we begin the night with a complimentary drink in Gallery 1 to inaugurate the new exhibition by Mexican artist Minerva Cuevas, prior to the opening night film gala.

Using old magic lanterns and 19th century microscope projectors , Cuevas takes us to a time when early scientific research was linked to a human desire to understand the world but also presents us with references to the human will to domesticate or control the wild or the anarchic. The 16mm film Landings (2008) consists of trip through the history of human civilization that is at the same time a fantasy about events in past and future times that have become part of the public imaginary.
