The Democratic Image – Photography and Globalisation is a conference that brings photographers, artists, thinkers and activists, from all round the world together in Manchester, on the 21 and 22 April, to discuss the changing face of photography in the 21st century.
Images showing through April as part of The Bigger Picture have been selected by people involved in the conference and the Being Here exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery. The photographs address the concepts of democracy, empowerment and self- representation. Being Here is the result of workshops with eight community groups in Manchester.
