On the Big Screen: 12 – 18 May 2007

The Bigger Picture

Sat 12 May – Friday 18 May 2007

Futuresonic, Futurevisual

Running alongside Futuresonic 2007 (10-12 May), Manchester’s urban festival of art, music and ideas, The Bigger Picture is screening works invited from Futuresonic’s Futurevisual programme. A celebration of all things audio-visual, the programme marks the 40th anniversary of seminal multi-media events that took place in the year of 1967. The famous UFO Club, the focus of the 60’s London multi-media scene, is reborn for Futuresonic 2007. Futurevisual brings together legendary figures from the 1960’s with some of the most cutting-edge AV artists working in the world today. Big Screen Manchester welcomes:

Takafumi Tsuchiya (Japan) Urum (2006)

Beautiful landscapes are reconstructed to generate new scenery with déjà vu, simultaneously creating a sense of harmonious incompatibility.

Christina McPhee (USA) Rhodes Racer (2007)

In collaboration with LA sound artist Steve Nalepa, McPhee draws on footage shot at the Bonneville Salt Flats GPS Expo to create a work of elegance and startling beauty.

Semiconductor (UK) Brilliant Noise (2006)

Semiconductors’ soundfilms reveal our physical world in flux; cities in motion, shifting landscapes and systems in chaos.

Endre Tveitan (Norway) Waterfall (2005-2006)

Collaborating with sound artist Lars Lervik, this work is a ‘living’ collage, combining sound with images composed into one ever-changing video picture.

Bret Battey (USA) Autarkeia Aggregatum (2005)

An evocative and tactile kaleidoscope of sound and image.
