To coincide with forthcoming Cornerhouse exhibition POI: Moving, Mapping, Memory, this visual arts course will examine how artists explore our surroundings using historical and technological perspectives. Contemporary and historical art practices, including performance, sound art, moving image, and networked environments will be presented through screenings, lectures and presentations by a selection of the exhibiting artists.

Course Structure
Week 1: Joe Duffy
Introduction to theories and concepts explored in the exhibition, with a screening of artist moving image works that deal with place & environment.
Week 2: Andrea Zapp
Interactive networked environments.
Week 3: Joel Porter
Examination of concept of time in photography/media arts, looking at photographers including H.P Robinson, the advent of digital photography and the significance of time in digital image/media arts.
Week 4: Joe Duffy
Installation and multi spatial narratives.
Week 5: Max Livesey
Work and concepts concerning digitized space, mapping and psycho-geography.
Week 6: Eimer Birkbeck
Sound based lecture with screenings and works concerned with place and locale, textures and layers.
Week 7: Joe Duffy
Urban Locales: Image and Architectures, Memory and Place.
Week 8: Andrea Zapp
Mixed-reality narratives and installations.
