Mapping Art

Recommended for A2 Art & Design, Art & Design Foundation and equivalent.

Capacity 20 places.

This half-day session will look at two distinctive exhibitions at Cornerhouse and how they occupy public space.
Drawing on Project #1:Sphere:dreamz , a multi-media installation in the Café and Bar, and Outside the Box, our exhibition in the galleries, students will examine ideas of context and public interaction. The session will also address how people interpret public spaces individually, mapping our own experiences of cities and architecture. This knowledge will then be applied in a practical activity, making work based on the themes introduced in the exhibition tours.

Project #1:Sphere:dreamz is part of Mixing It Up, a series of projects throughout Manchester that challenge the perceived ‘identities’ of some of Manchester’s most well-known and trafficked urban spaces – the Curry Mile and Canal Street, and the Oxford Road Cultural Corridor that connects the two.

Led by Alpesh Patel, curator of Mixing It Up.
