Our annual celebration of Irish language film returns with a special screening of Rocky Ros Muc, a passionate account of the life of Ros Muc-born boxer Sean Mannion.
From humble beginnings, to challenging for a world title crown. From the quiet Gaeltacht village of Ros Muc in Co Galway, to the criminal underworld of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger and the mean streets of Boston. Rocky Ros Muc examines spirit inside the ring and troubles outside; the reality of emigration and its impact on identity. This is a story of survival. Of determination, honour and strength. A story about identity and community. Not just for Sean Mannion, but for the thousands of emigrants like him.
The screening will be followed by a discussion in both Irish and English and this event is open to all, whether or not you are an Irish speaker.
Part of this year’s Irish Language Arts Festival supported by the Government of Ireland. Programmed in partnership with Manchester’s Irish language groups and screened with thanks to Below the Radar.
