Maidin Scannáin Gaeilge (Irish Study Morning): KINGS

Our second annual Maidin Scannáin Gaeilge includes an extended introduction, a screening of Tom Collins’ 2007 Irish language feature KINGS and  a post-screening discussion in Irish and English. KINGS tells the story of six young Irish men  who, in the mid 1970s, leave their homes in search of work in England. They hope to make their fortunes and return to Ireland, but 30 years after their arrival, only one of the men is making the long journey home. With a strong central cast including performances from Colm Meaney, Donal O’Kelly and Brendan Conroy, KINGS is a wonderfully presented universal tale  of alienation and the search for identity. KINGS will be screened with English subtitles.

This Study Morning, supported by the Government of Ireland, is led by Dr Eithne Ní Ghallchobhair, an Irish writer and teacher who is currently working on the Modern Irish Dictionary with the Royal Irish Academy.

Beginners’ to advanced level Irish language learners welcome.
