In this era of globalisation, Spanish Cinema seems to have become very cosmopolitan. Nevertheless there are directors who create and export a national cinema. Following Almodóvar’s example, they have been able to make internationally successful films without losing their identity (Julio Medem, Fernando León, Benito Zambrano, Icíar Bollaín…). This talk will examine stereotypes and preconceptions about Spanish Cinema abroad and the identifying features of Spanish films that give them their popularity in the international market.Led by Dr Carmen Herrero, Manchester Metropolitan University.
