Lone Wolves and Dangerous Dames – an exploration of film noir

What is film noir? What is its continued attraction and relevance to filmmakers and audiences alike? In this course we will look at various aspects of film noir including predominant themes, characters, narratives and visual style. A wide range of films and historical contexts will be explored through group discussions and analysis of key films. We will take inspiration from the My Noir season, and the course will include discussion of classic noir, neo-noir, retro-noir and examples from a number of international film cultures.

Beginners’ level, no prior knowledge required.
