John Walter: A Virus Walks Into A Bar

A Virus Walks Into A Bar

Last year, HOME hosted CAPSID, a critically-acclaimed solo exhibition by UK artist John Walter. Created in collaboration with molecular virologist Professor Greg Towers of University College London, CAPSID was a riotous and unexpected look at new scientific knowledge about viral capsids.

As part of the exhibition, we debuted a brand-new HOME Artist Film commission, A Virus Walks Into A Bar. A dramatization of the route of infection adopted by the HIV virus, the film shows how viruses are delivered to host cells during infection – providing a clear parallel with the current Covid-19 pandemic. Taking a soap opera view of the troubles viruses cause, A Virus Walks Into A Bar is a surreal depiction of the scientific principles that lie behind all viral outbreaks.

The film is now available free to watch online, for a limited time only, click above to watch.

We also have a book available about the CAPSID project and exhibition from HOME Publishing, distributed by Cornerhouse Publications:
