Introduction to Theatre Studies: Actor, Language and Identity

Explore key theatre practitioners, playwrights, language, identity and the actor’s art in this fascinating seven-week introduction to Theatre Studies.

Peter Dougal (MA), Head of Drama and Theatre Studies at Chetham’s School of Music, will lead a series of informal lectures and discussions that reveal the purpose and power of this emotive, reactionary and politically driven art form.

Dougal will impart his passion for the practitioners he has found most provocative and affecting during his career, presenting a thorough and accessible approach to their work.

There will be three main areas of discussion: The actor in theatre, the politics of gender and sexuality through theatre, and the language of theatre. Through group analysis you will make connections across a range of political and artistic expressions, revealing a beautifully diverse, poetic and antagonistic body of voices.

Beginners’ level.
