INSET: Film Industry and Audiences

Recommended for teachers of AS and A2 Film and Media.

Capacity: 15 places.

Who is in the audience for a film? How do individual audience members react to what is shown, both in the cinema and afterwards? Is watching a film at a multiplex the same as being in a film festival audience? Do film producers and critics really know what audiences think and feel? What does it mean to be the Box Office No 1 film?

In this twilight INSET, Roy Stafford, author of Understanding Audiences and the Film Industry (bfi 2007), will explore these and similar questions and will provide teachers with materials and methods for teaching film industry and audiences in the classroom.
