How Do Personae Dance? by La JohnJoseph

La JohnJoseph has been delving in the nebulous world of personae for almost a decade; from art school dabblings with existential drag alter-ego Simone de Boudoir, to the fully-functional Alexander Geist, and most recently anarcho-aristocrat 2D Joan (whose debut film appearance is part of the current gallery exhibition La Movida). How Do Personae Dance? is a talk about the intricacies of being an authentic fake, the satirical possibilities of gender dysphoria, and the process of going deep cover as one’s own identical twin. Tracing a line from radical 1960s psychedelic drag, through 1980s live art, and into contemporary digital performance, La JohnJoseph attempts to scientifically prove Truman Capote’s cardinal epigram; “She isn’t a phoney because she’s a real phoney.”
