German GCSE Study Morning: Transit

Join us for our German GCSE study morning.

A fun and interactive way to engage students in German language outside of the classroom!
This session will be led by Sebastian Truskolaski, lecturer in German Cultural Studies at the University of Manchester. The day will include an introduction from Sebastian, providing contextual information and key words. This will be followed by a screening of Transit, helping learners explore a range of topics related to German language and culture. Sebastian will lead a series of exercises exploring themes and topics covered on the German GCSE syllabus.

Dir Christian Petzold / Germany 2018
102 mins / German with English Subtitles

When fleeing Paris after the Nazi invasion of France, Georg (Franz Rogowski) escapes to Marseille and assumes the identity of a dead author in attempt to secure his passage to safety. With nowhere to turn, he is confined to the corridors of a small hotel, the consulates, cafés and bars that line the harbour. Then everything changes when Georg falls in love with the mysterious Marie (Paul Beer).

Based on the novel by Anna Seghers, Transit, directed by Christian Petzold (Barbara, Phoenix), tells the story of a nearly impossible love amid a story of escape, exile, and the search for a place to call home.
