The event will trace the development of science fiction as a category in genre criticism. It will introduce students to contemporary genre theory through a discussion of the overlapping of science fiction with horror and the thriller and the changing status of the genre within mainstream and independent cinema. Using a range of film extracts, the event will address the concerns of A2 modules in Media Studies and Film Studies (all specifications).
