ESOL Study Session: The Iron Lady

Capacity: 158 places

Cormac Conway will produce a classroom preparation guide that will enable teachers to prepare students in advance of this study session. The pack will include background information on the social and political history of the 1980s and key vocabulary to enhance students’ understanding of the film.

The study morning at Cornerhouse includes three key elements:

An introduction to the themes of The Iron Lady; a full screening of the film and a post-screening workshop.

In the post-screening session, students will discuss the film in groups and complete language exercises and will explore topics such as: the life and legacy of Margaret Thatcher; Thatcher’s government and its role in shaping the 1980s; the role of women in modern society and notions of public and private personae. Students will also discuss cinematic elements such as: performances from the lead actors and the style and design of the film.

Led by Cormac Conway, ESOL and Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Manager.
