Course: Thinking About Cinema

Recent years have seen an explosion of new approaches to cinema, from feminism and psychoanalysis to post-structuralism and formalism. This course explores film theory and asks whether, in practice, theory helps us to understand or to evaluate the films we see. The course will include screenings of Orson Welles’ CITIZEN KANE, Kieslowski’s THREE COLOURS RED and the Coen Brothers’ THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE.
