Introducing a new daytime film studies course. This first six-week course will concentrate on narrative conventions – different strategies employed to start, develop and end a filmic narrative (such as classical narrative vs. unresolved narrative, point of view vs. omniscience, openness vs. closure). The course, led by Maggie Hoffgen, will comprise of six weekly classes with three screenings. Films shown will include THE MAGNIFIENT AMBERSONS and A BOUT DE SOUFFLE. For the final screening, the concepts studied during the course will be applied to a new film chosen from the Cornerhouse programme. Suitable for beginners.
