What is an auteur? This intermediate level course will examine the role of the director in filmmaking: can a director be the true ‘author’ of a film and how do independent films differ from studio productions? Various questions will be raised and examined through case studies of directors from classical Hollywood to European cinema. Course screenings to be confirmed.
