BFI Film Academy 2

In October 2013, Cornerhouse recruited 15 talented young filmmakers to take part in the second BFI Film Academy in Manchester. This group of enthusiastic young people undertook over 100 hours of training and workshops which included 6 film theory sessions, a film programming session, a BBFC film certification session, 2 practical documentary filmmaking sessions and 10 days of fiction film workshops.

The group came up with their own story for the fiction film and undertook all roles on the film from pre-production through to post. They were supported by industry professionals and even worked towards achieving a Silver Arts Award.

The short film they created is called Fall and is about a man who struggles to come to terms with the loss of his partner. Isolated in his house, he tries to ignore his inner conflict, burying his thoughts and emotions deep within.

Quotes from the participants:

“On set was amazing. It was such a real and raw experience and we were able to actually see what it’s like to be on a proper set, learning how to act and what to say, it was so amazing and it’s given me that basis that other people my age may not have.”

“The best thing about the project was having an opportunity to learn such amazing new skills from professionals that have a lot of experience in this domain. I feel like not a lot of people my age have opportunities like this and I am very lucky that I could be a part of this experience.”

“This experience has been incredible and have really been life changing. I have learnt the most amazing aspects about film making and I have met some amazing people. I have enjoyed every part of it. It was great.”
