Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s debut feature DAS LEBEN DER ANDEREN provides the focus text for this study session which will discuss daily life, cultural life and freedom in the Communist GDR. This Oscar-winning and gripping thriller was born out of intense research and eyewitness accounts, giving students a stunningly authentic image of East-Berlin in the 1980s.

Maggie Hoffgen will provide students with contextualizing information and following the screening, students will complete language exercises and will have the opportunity to discuss the film in German.
