In association with Waterstones on Deansgate, Cornerhouse is pleased to welcome director Alan Parker to Manchester in celebration of the publication of his first novel, The Sucker’s Kiss. Having survived the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, Thomas Moran stumbles into a career as a pickpocket at the tender age of seven. His picaresque journey takes him through Prohibition and the Depression accompanied by an assortment of gangsters and ne’er-do-wells.Parker will read from the book then participate in an audience Q&A, led by Manchester Evening News Entertainment Editor, Kevin Bourke. Following the Q&A, members of the audience will have the opportunity to get their copies of the book signed. The evening will be topped off by a rare screening of THE EVACUEES, a 1975 BBC1 production, directed by Parker, written by Jack Rosenthal, and set in the North West where children evacuated from WWII London are learning to cope with life in a foreign land.Tickets: £6.00 full / £5.00 concs.Copies of the book will be on sale at Cornerhouse on the evening.
