A Quiet Passion Q&A

We will be joined by director Terence Davies for a Q&A chaired by Rachel Hayward, Film Programme Manager following the 14:30 screening on Sun 9 Apr.

Film details

The career renaissance of Terence Davies reaches an apex with this stunning, beautifully observed, erudite and witty literary biopic. Now recognised as a genius who committed to paper some of the most important verse in American literature, 19th-century poet Emily Dickinson was virtually unknown in her lifetime, with fewer than a dozen of her nearly 1,800 poems published. A recluse who eventually boarded herself up in her bedroom, Dickinson explored her inner self in great detail. As source material, her story is as poetic as her work itself. Cynthia Nixon is a revelation in the central role, ably supported by Jennifer Ehle. It’s also a delight to see Keith Carradine back on the big screen. Beautifully shot by Florian Hoffmeister (The Deep Blue Sea), this is truly a film to luxuriate and revel in.

A Quiet Passion screens on release from Fri 7 Apr.
