I recently had the luxury of previewing Complicite’s A Disappearing Number, as part of NT Live’s latest season of plays. The production itself was up to National Theatre’s usual high standard. The result as a play-on-screen format was, astounding. The visuals were crisp, multiple cameras captured the live experience from the clever staging to the close up of the cast during the performance. And all broadcast in full high definition.
It was in fact the acoustics I was impressed with the most. During a quiet scene a discreet cough in the audience resonated from the back left surround speakers in the cinema as though I was part of that same audience. Based on what I’ve seen I’m delighted Cornerhouse, made possible by new digital technology, is able to bring such an exciting series of production to the big screen. I know personally I can’t wait for the upcoming live broadcast of Hamlet this Thursday.
And here’s a quick taster of what you can expect –
Hamlet is being broadcast live from the Olivier Theatre to Cinema 1 this Thursday 9 December. Tickets are still available and can be bought here.
