The vote for gold medalists is on

Over the last three months people from various communities across Manchester have created one-minute films of themselves performing an international sport, in the hope of winning gold! With five events and over 100 competitors, the competition is fierce and films have been coming in from as far as the USA.

It’s all part of Mechanical Games an interactive project by media artist Xtine Burrough. It’s an online, international sporting tournament for the masses, where anyone can perform and everyone can vote on gold medal winners.

So what kind of films are we talking about? Here’s a taster from the Wise Move Dance Group in the Weightlifting event…



And voting starts today! During the whole of September, the polls are open for members of the public to vote online for gold medal winners.

So how do you vote for your favourite?

Just visit the Mechanical Games website watch the films and place your vote online.  For each of the five sporting events, voting rounds will be posted each day and open on the following dates:

Weight Lifting (01 Sept onwards)
Swimming (08 Sept onwards)
Hockey (15 Sept onwards)
Fencing (19 Sept onwards)
Volleyball (26 Sept onwards)
Bonus Round – the top videos (in 2nd place) posted against each other (29 & 30 Sept only)

Voting polls will close at midnight on Thurs 30 September.

Mechanical Games is funded by The National Lottery through Big Lottery Fund. It is part of Abandon Normal Devices – AND – a new festival funded by Legacy Trust UK and is part of WE PLAY, the Northwest cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
