The Heretic opens to great reviews

The reviews are in for our regional premiere production of Richard Bean’s award-winning The Heretic, which opened at The Lowry on Thursday 27 September. And the critics reviewing this controversial piece of work – whatever your stand-point on climate change – have been highly complimentary.

“The Heretic, given the first out-of-London production by the Library Theatre, is a belligerent and fleetingly brilliant riposte against heterodox thinking,” – The Guardian

“Very smart and very funny… One of the funniest comedies of the year,” – Oldham Evening Chronicle

“A stimulating and very entertaining piece full of very funny lines and intelligent dialogue delivered perfectly by a great cast… Definitely recommended,” – The British Theatre Guide

“This ensemble cast is one of the best in recent memory… Thoughtful, considered, and most importantly entertaining,” – The Public Reviews

“A very entertaining play, neatly directed by Chris Honer. I doubt if a more intelligent comedy will be along this way for some time to come. I recommend it very highly,” – The Manchester Theatre Awards

“One of the wittiest, cleverest black comedies I’ve seen for a long time… Another hit for a truly outstanding theatre company. Long may they prosper,” – Sale and Altrincham Messenger

“There are some wonderful scenes, great one-liners, and strong performances all round,” – Manchester Confidential

“A bracing change in an era of dumbed-down entertainment… A very funny and thought-provoking play and we always need more of those,” – What’s On Stage

“A riotous comedy, funny, very provocative and stimulating… Blessed with an infectious exuberance,” – What’s Good to Do
