Something for the weekend?

This weekend make your way down to Platt Fields Park to experience Manchester Mela, two days full of Asian music, dance, food and culture.

There are a plethora of activities for all during the event, including two performances that are the result of our Micro Commissions scheme:

  • Faiz Ahmed Faiz is NOW! is a taste of the life and poetry of the renowned Pakistani poet Faiz. It promises to be an exploration of how he connects to international events and cultures, presented together with multimedia projection, sounds, discussion and contributions from the audience and passing poets.
  • Take The Floor will mix the traditional Indian Rangoli art form with contemporary music, as three western musicians improvise live during the making of a Rangoli piece. The resulting composition, together with atmosphere sounds from the event itself and visuals from the making of the art piece will be mixed into a new video work.

Our friends at Manchester Girl Geeks will also be in the arts and crafts area, at the ready to help you discover mathematical origami, electronic circuits and more…
